Maize Out!

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In a continuing effort to bring more excitement to Michigan Stadium, the University of Michigan Athletic Department along with the Maize Rage will ask all fans attending Saturday's (Oct. 15) football game against No. 8-ranked Penn State to wear a yellow shirt, jacket or sweater to support the Wolverines with a "Maize Out."

"We have been working with the Michigan Athletic Department for a number of years to enhance the game-day atmosphere at all Michigan sporting events," said Dave Stuart, Maize Rage president. "This time, we are not only asking all U-M students to wear yellow, we would love to see all Michigan fans wear something yellow to show our support during this regionally televised game on ABC."

"We've had great support from the student body for our other efforts in creating atmosphere," said Nick Benson, Maize Rage outreach coordinator. "So, we especially hope the U-M students will be the driving force behind this 'Maize Out.'"

Minnesota flag planted on Michigan's field -- league's 2nd incident -- brings swift response

USA Today
Planting a school flag in an opponent's football field to celebrate a road victory has raised a red flag with the Big Ten. In a memo sent Monday to conference athletic directors and coaches, commissioner Jim Delany said this kind of postgame taunting must stop.
"It's happened twice already," Big Ten associate commissioner Mark Rudner said Tuesday. (Delany was unavailable.) "Jim basically said enough was enough. He basically said winning and shaking hands was enough."

Minnesota running back Laurence Maroney tried to plant a huge Minnesota flag in Michigan's field after a 23-20 win Saturday.
It didn't go in Michigan's artificial turf but the point was made nonetheless.
On Sept. 17, Michigan State players planted the school flag on the field at Notre Dame following a 44-41 overtime victory.
"We would never have encouraged our guys to do that," Michigan State coach John L. Smith told reporters after the game. "The emotions displayed at the end of that game -- that's college football. I only wish the players had channeled that energy in another way."

The Big East Rankings

Time for the Big East rankings....the most uninteresting conference in the country...well, maybe the Sun Belt.

1. Connecticut -Ah, New England football.
2. Rutgers - How can you not like the State University of New Jersey
3. Pittsburgh - I wish they would...#1.get rid of Dave Wanstead, #2, go back to thier old blue and yellow uniforms with 'PITT' on the helmets.
4. West Virginia - I've always liked WV, plus we're running out of state universities in the Big East, so they have to be top 4.
5. Cincinnati - I used to like Cinicinnati a little more, but then they changed their helmets...
6. Syracuse - meh, it's upstate New York. I don't really like them, but I don't dislike them either...complete neutrality.
7. Louisville - again...meh, not really a fan.
8. South Florida - Please God, no more Florida schools!

Off Topic: Gore 2008?

They See Al Gore by a Nose in 2008
Is Al Gore coming back? If allies we talked to have their way, the former veep will be the next president. "It's Gore Time," says a political strategist and fundraiser who is opening a bid to get Gore into the race. Gore friends see his recent political and business moves as proof he's preparing to run. Allies say that in speeches, Gore has found his voice to address domestic and world issues. And in raising money for his Current TV network, which targets the critical youth market, Big Al has built an issue base and donor network that's competitive with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton 's. Our source--a top aide in the previous Bush administration--is planning meetings with Gore's team to push an early entry while Clinton runs for re-election in New York. It doesn't end there: The Gorebots want him to pick Sen. Barack Obama, the youthful Illinois African-American, as his No. 2.
