A Little Off Topic (PAC-10)

I'm just trying to kill some time until football starts so I though I'd rank my favorite PAC-10 teams while I'm watching "Word Wars." (It's not bad actually) So anyway, here it is...

1. Oregon

2. Washington (I had a tough time deciding between Oregon and Washington for #1, but these are definately my top 2...then there's a little drop off)

3. California

4. Oregon State

5. Washington State (These 3 teams are about the same, then there's another drop off)

6. Arizona State (I have no strong feelings either way about the Arizona teams, but I do like Arizona State more than Arizona for some reason)

7. Arizona

8. UCLA (I hate all 3 of these teams, but I give UCLA a slight edge because the other 2 are private schools)

9. Stanford

10. USC

My New favorite Helmet in College Football

This is the best helmet in all of college football, and BTW it has 'Spitfires alternate' written all over it!

Bates College of the Division III New England Small College Conference

It's A Big Ten Throwback!

Every team in the Big Ten should do a throwback game...and these are the helmets that I think each of the teams should go to. Good God I'm so bored at work right now. I've finished all my work for today, and have even completed all my hours worth of work for Sunday...and I still have almost 3 hours to kill. Ahhhhhhh! Kill Me!! Enjoy the helmets :)

Website Update

I just made one little change to the Website today. I did away with the seperate uniforms page that you had to go through to get to each teams uniform page. Instead, you just click on the helmet on the main page to get to each teams uniform pages. I think it's a little easier and eliminates clicking.

trivia

can you name the big ten player that played on the Ohio St. national championship team of 1968 and went on to a succcessful NFL career including finishing second in the NFl in rushing in 1971?
Please do not cheat.

Answer later today

traveling trophy

The goblins released plans today for the creation of a new traveling trophy to be awarded to the winner of the season series between the rival Goblins and Spitfires. Chairman Carhart announced the news this morning at his weekly press conference where he spent most of his time talking about "how cool it would be" to play for what is expected to be a flag. Apparently the new trophy will carry the name "the family flag" and feature the Carhart family crest in flag form. Chairman/coach M Carhart giggled that he "always wanted to wave a flag of glory after a victory" and this would give him an opportunity to do so at some point in the future. The flag itself is not yet ready for release and while clearly not as prestigious as the blue ox it will undoubtly be a source of pride in the spitfire/goblin trophy case. Chairman/coach Carhart also hinted at the creation of other rivalry trophies between the goblins and farmers and goodgers. He said he had a good idea for the goblin/farmer trophy but negotiations with the farmers have not yet begun. He also has an idea for the goblin/goodger series but refused to elaborate until further preperations had been made. Carhart hopes to have the flag ready to award to this years winner. More news on trophies is likely to come out of goblins HQ in the near future.

My Proposal for Conference Realignment

I've been working on this for over a week, and I'm finally ready to unveil it to the world. This is my proposal for the realignment of conferences across Division I-A college football. I've included notes referring to the conferences teams belong to now, and what teams each conference has lost. I hope you enjoy the graphics and helmets.

I'm also starting work on my proposal for a college football playoff system that I should unveil in the next month or so.

As people have said to me often, "God you have a lot of time on your hands."

I have to admit it was a lot of fun figuring this out and then putting all the helmets next to the names. I don't know if that means that I'm a huge nerd obsessed with college football, or that I have some kind of mental disorder and am very easily entertained. Either way, I encourage you all to get in on the fun...

Andy's Proposal for Conference Realignment

How do I get my mortgage back

Big Ten scores this week:

Wisconsin 34
Indiana 10

Iowa 42
Illinois 9

Michigan State 31
Michigan 23

I'm absolutely torn on this one:
Purdue 21
Notre Dame 20

Penn State 28
Minnesota 21

Least favorite college football teams in the country

Here are my least favorite teams in the country starting with my "favorite" worst team and 10 being my least favorite team in the country. Of course, when teams are better they tend to move down my list but I think this is a pretty solid bottom 10 for me. Honorable mention would be South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia and Texas A&M. Surprisingly, UCLA and USC did not make my list. I used to really hate them both but I have warmed up to them over the last 10 years. For one thing, I like Pete C at USC and I generally like the Pac Ten so they have risen on my list along with the Pac Ten. Anyway here is my list.

10 Iowa - I hate putting a BT team in this group but in all honesty as much as I try to like iowa I just can't. As someone once said, I hate those god damn motherfuckers more than satan!

9 Notre Dame - This is another team I want to like b/c they are in the midwest (sort of) and I like the nickname "fighting Irish" but they had that traitor Holtz and I am tired of the "America's team" label they get. As I think about it I would probably root for them over most SEC schools but if say Georgia beat them I would probably be happy so I figure I should put them on the list.

8 BYU- I have always hated this school ever since the days of Robbie Bosco and that bullshit National title they "won" in 1984. They played no one and beat Michigan in the Holiday bowl that year and Michigan finished 5th in the Big Ten!! I hated Jim McMahon and Steve Young too- still do! I also hate the Mormons those conservative bible banging F's.

7 Nebraska- I am actually shocked they are this high on my list. All I can say here is " we will never forget 84-13." Its a conservative state, the fans are crumb bumbs and arrogant as hell. Every Nebraska fan I have ever known has been a rabid Republican and a big prick to boot. Basically, Nebraska is a bigger version of Iowa. I did like Turner Gill, I.M. Hipp, and Jarvis Redwine.

6 Florida State- There is nothing to like about this team or school. Its location in Fl makes it virtually a deep south team like Al, or MS. They are constantly overrated and Bobby Bowden gets too much credit.

5 Oklahoma- I liked billy sims but everything else about this program can kiss my ass. Another Rep state with fans like Iowa and Neb. only dumber if that is possible. A sooner is a ridiculous nickname and they are always overrated as well.

4 Auburn- Its hard to get worse than a private school in Alabama. The only thing worse than rednecks is rich rednecks. The reason they are this high is that they had Bo Jackson and they didn't have the Bear

3 Ole Miss.- doesn't the "ole" explain it all. I think their offical mascot is a confederate guy and a confederate flag. Screw them- they have to be the most ass- backward school in the nation and to make matters worse they had that no good spoiled shit Eli Manning. I hope this team remains buried so deep in the SEC that the rest of the country forgets they exist

2 Miami (fl) The ultimate goons of college football. They cheat and play dirty act like thugs and produce some of my least favorite players of all time (except Chuck foreman). One of the best moments of my life was when Penn State beat that fucking Miami team led by that sleaze ball Jimmy Johnson. I despise everything abut Miami. The city sucks, the beaches are pretentious and full of cake eating old money elites. I hate their helmets, I hate their colors and I hate their stupid duck like mascot. When I think Miami I think goon ball and michael Irivin - upchuck!

1 My least favorite team in all of college football is Alabama. I loathed them as a child when they had that nazi Bear Bryant. I think the real reason I hate Alabama though is that I think of them as the ultimate representation of the confederacy- even more than MS. They are always good, they reside in the belly of the old confederacy, they are arch Reps. and they seem like the exact opposite of everything I like and stand for. They are evil incarnate and every game they lose adds to my life by another day. You can imagine then how sweet it was to beat those johnny Rebs on their soil last year- it is a satisfying and great memory.

last weekend's pick'em winner

Sorry for the delay, I'd really rather be able to post on this blog all day like some- in fact I'd rather write, talk, think and dream about college football all day- every day, but alas the man calls. I will have more to say about all these interesting topics (you guys go too fast) when I get some time hopefully later today. Until then here are the results:

Number of games correct out of 10 possible

1 Andy 9 (missed only TN) Nice job! .75 cent winner
2 Jay 7 (missed MN, VT, BC)
3 Matt 6 (missed MN, WI, TN, BC)
3 Shawn 6 (missed MN, WI, Ohio St, BC)

Spitfires Set Goal for Week 5 on Their Helmets

The Spitfires will be wearing yet another new helmet this week when they take on the 2 time defending champion Goodgers. The new helmet design will feature the number 102 on the side of the helmet. That number is significant because the highest point total the Spitfires have scored this year is 101. "Our goal this week is to score 102 points," coach Carhart said. "We may not win the game, but dammit, we ARE going to score at least 102 points. And they players are going to be reminded of that goal everytime they see out helmets."

Goodgers to Play for Charity

Helmet Designed for
this weekends game

This weekend the Goodgers will contribute to the BushClinton Hurricane relief fund and help raise money in a variety of ways for relief. The Goodgers unveiled a unique helmet that will be used this weekend, after the game, the helmets will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to victims of Hurricane Katrina. Any helmet not sold will be ground up and never seen again.

10 Favorite Teams Outside the Big Ten

This was tough, as I don't really like that many teams in college football (I generally just cheer for the underdog), but here's what I came up with;

10. UTEP/Hawaii
9. Kansas State
8. Missouri
7. Washington State
6. California
5. Oregon State
4. Colorado
3. Washington
2. Oregon
1. Iowa State

Vindicated!

You may have already seen this, but I thought I'd post it if you haven't. It's a great thing to watch...I've seen it 3 times this morning already. The music selection was perfect, and going to the announcers in the 2nd overtime was great too. Superb!

Big Ten Predictions Accuracy

Here's the difference between our predicted point spread vs. actual point spread.

Who hit? Who missed? Look inside to find out.

An imagined Big Ten

From last weeks stuff:

If you could pick any college Football team in the country to add to the Big Ten, who would it be? To be clear, ignore practical considerations like "they would never pick team X because they are in the PAC-10, or Georgia or whatever" and think about what team you would actually like to see in the Big Ten.

You saw my Top Ten -- but as a reminder I think there are 4 teams that would fit the Big 10 well based on my own criteria -- Cal, Texas, Washington and UNC.

Time For The Power Rankings

-Any Michigan St. believers yet?
-Gophers are creeping up...
-God I hate Wisconsin...

1. Michigan State 4-0
2. Ohio State 3-1
3. Wisconsin 4-0
4. Minnesota 4-0
5. Michigan 2-2
6. Penn State 4-0
7. Purdue 2-1
8. Iowa 2-2
9. Northwestern 2-2
10. Illinois 2-2
11. Indiana 3-0

Is it too early?

Or should the the still undefeated 4-0 Fighting Farmers wait for the Maroney trade to conspire before declearing themselves league champions?
