Any interest in adding Pitt Rutgers? It's tonight's game so that would mean everyone would have to pick it by this evening -- but if I'm watching tv tonight I'd have a reason to watch besides to once again confirm how bad of a coach Wannstadt is?

Sure, lets add it...

I'll take Rutgers.

my picks

last week:
bet your mortgage 0-1
lock of the week 1-0

If you took my advice you should have pushed last week. 500 is not too bad for week 1 as the swam would say. This week I look to bust out of mediocrity and move into 750 territory.

VA (what happened to MD)
NC (I was not impressed with Utah last week)
OK ST (OSU looked pathetic against Fl. Atl. but Colo should have lost to CSU it should be close)
USC (I know ASU is good and the sexy pick to win but I see USC losing to a less high profile team sometime this year- this game has lots of hype and I expect USC to be ready)
FL (I think Al will win but I don't want to pick them)
NE (I know you are asking how I could betray ISU but their performace against Army was embarassing- sorry ISU but I still love ya)
ORE ST (This could be an OT game and I give the edge to OSU b/c they are at home)
CAL (they are underrated and AZ is still a year away from moving up in the conf)
Auburn (SC was exposed last week and it will continue)
Vandy (This is great for Vandy- they have been waiting a long time for a season like this and I think they get it done again- good for them!)
UCLA (the program is stirring and washington is awful)
Boise St (usually its crazy to pick against Haw at Haw- the trip destroys teams and it may happen again this week but I think HA is not that good this year- its a stab)
VT (They are for real but they will not win the NT)
Clemson (how did they lose to BC?)
Oregon (3rd best team in the pac ten)
Memphis (UTEP is scary but I think they make enough mistakes to hand it to memphis)

Now for my lock of the week
Iowa (They look terrible but Illinois is bad and Iowa will take some frustration out on them. Iowa is better than their record indicates and Tate should have a good day)

My bet your mortage pick
Wisconsin (Indiana throws, runs the spread, Wisc has a suspect pass D and they just came off an emoitional win against MI so why bet your mortgage? Simple, Indiana is horrible and Wis always plays up or down to the level of their opponent. Wisc. will look sloppy and mistake prone and then in the 4th Q will win the game going away.

Mich St (I knew Henne would cost them a game and last week he looked like a bum. How about that self-tackle to end the game - nice Chad! The rivalry will make the game close but MSU is a better team and they are at home- no melt down this year

Pur (A battle of overrated teams. Pur looked like crap against MN and should have lost by two Td's in regulation but ND struggled with Wash. I expect a high scoring game but Pur wins b/c they are at home.

Penn State (this game could go either way. their history says it will be close and I expect MN to come out flat after the big win last week. Again, home field makes the difference if it were in MN I would pick the gophs but the streak against PSU probably ends sat.

Finally
Pitt ( I actually think Rutgers will win but I like Pitt minus Wannie and I want to root for them tonight)

No point spread on the Big Ten this week Matt?

Jay said...

Ahhh, classic Matt. Didn't you call me out as a pessimist for picking Penn State earlier this week?

Are you predicting a 4 game slide for the Gophers?

Matt said...

Actually, I was not calling you out as a pessimist - I just thought it was funny that you were going to pick the gophs to lose 4 in a row but when I pick the gophs to lose 4 in a row I get heat from others in this league for being a pessimist. I said this before the year started- this is the worst D in the Mason era- no easy task- and I am picking them to lose the rest of their games except Indiana and that will be tough too. This team stinks and it's time for Mason to go- 9 years and not one reasonable D in that time- ridiculous- he is in way over his head. He should go back to the MAC b/c he can't win in the BT.
FIRE MASON NOW!

Jay said...

Matt - I thought the same thing. Just thought it was funny that you would ask me specifically about the gopher pick and then you picked against them as well.

I saw a Michigan fan after the Wisconsin loss suggesting Mason would be a good replacement for Carr. He said if Mason can win at all in Minnesota, he'd do well in Michigan!
