The scrambling of Drew Stanton and the hard running of Little Mike Hart have produced unbridled optimism at the Goodgers first practice of 2005. "I just want to win one more," Hart said, "after that, who knows." A League title this season would be an unprecedented third Blue Ox Bowl win in a row to follow the Goodger's unprecedented repeat title last season and it's victory in the first annual Blue Ox Bowl in 2003.

Wait, where's page 6? I want to read the rest of this article about this amazing team.
The Goblins respond to more Goodger hype and self-congratulating
"I'm tired of punky, puny, overrated Michigan/Goodger running-backs trying to inflate their accomplishments and re-write history."
Tyrell Jordan's eye-opening comment was part of an emotional outburst in the aftermath of reading Mike Hart's "optimistic" assessment of his team's chances of winning the Blue Ox bowl again this year. After returning from an early fall practice session (run by the players not the coaches- so no violations by coach Carhart to be found here) Jordan expressed his frustration to reporters about the lack of respect shown to the most consistent team in the league's history. Jordan asked reporters "have the Goblins in their long and storied history ever finished in last place? Can the Goodgers say that? Who finished first in the regular season last year, was it the Goodgers?" Jordan continued "Why can't the media face the fact that the Goodgers have benefited from a favorable schedule and key injuries to Goblin players at the end of the season. If Young could have played at full strength last year we would have bitch slapped the Goodgers in Blue Ox bowl and they know it!" Jordan's anger turned to confidence when asked if he thought he could pick up where Noah Herron left off last year. "I'm going to be the main man this year and I'll carry this team to get babe myself if I have to" Jordan boasted. Jordan's emotional speech and inflamatory language suggest that this could be a very intense year in the BTFFL. The Goodgers are the defending champs but are not necessarily favorites to win it all again this year. Besides the always strong Goblins, the Goodgers face a challenge from the spitfires who look to have the best Rb in the league and an underrated recieving corps. If they can find a quality freshman Rb to compliment LM then the Gooders and Co. could be in trouble. Also, the always fighting farmers hope to build around their dynamic duo of Brandon Kirsch and Santonio Holmes and if they can assemble some other pieces early this fall then they could be a worst to first cinderella story by the end of the year. The Goblins on the other hand, are likely to be where they have always been- somewhere between 1st and 3rd. They have a trio of outstanding Qb's in Cupito, Tate and T. Smith and this will clearly be the strength of their team. If two of these three stay heathly and play well they will alomst certainly be in the thick of it in Nov. In order to do better than last year however, the Goblins need more production from their Rb's. With Green-ellis and Herron gone it is vital that the "Iowa" backs finally emerge, stay healthy, and produce for Carhart's Goblins. Jordan is poised to fill the Herron hole but either Young or Simmons need to have a good year in order for the Goblins to challenge for the title. Jordan has little doubt that the Goblins will find the players necessary to be back in the Blue Ox Bowl this year. "Every year the media, the coaches, the fans, say other teams have more talent, more upside than the Goblins, and they look down their noses at us and every year we prove them wrong" Jordan reminded reporters, "We'll do it again this year and then see what everyone says." Coach Carhart refused to endorse Jordan's pointed words but did echo his general sentiments. "I am not saying we will win the league this year" Carhart admitted "but every year another team is predicted to be better and somehow we manage to contend. This year we have a secret weapon that gives us a great chance to win it all. The weapon's name is Troy Smith and I think he will be a Heisman candidate before he is done here. He can do anything that Stanton can do and he is a better athlete- he can carry a team on any given week." Coach Carhart then went on to issue a warning to the rest of the league in the words of the immortal and legendary NFL Coach O.A. "Bum" Phillips (lov Ya blue!). "Two years ago we knocked on the door finishing second, last year we pounded on the door finishing first in the regular season, this year we are going to kick the god damn door down and take everything!" Only time will tell if Jordan, Carhart and Goblins will suffer the same horrible and embarrassing fate as the Oilers in the 1970s or will prove to be underappreciated sages that cover themselves in glory with a triumphant march to the Blue Ox Bowl Championship this year, but two things are clear heading into the fall- 1- Coach Carhart's mission to re-ignite the love fest that was Lov ya Blue with Earl Campbell and Bum Phillips is bound to fail. 2 the league is determined to dethown the Goodgers, the battle lines are already being drawn, and the Goblin's think they will be the ones to do it.

Savvy Big Ten Fantasy Football observers believe that the Goodgers would have won the League Title in 2002 as well had it not been for key injuries. This season, the pundits are nearly unanimous in making Bucky the odds-on favorite to repeat. While the league should be close, who can argue with the sustained dominance of the team?
In addition to Hart, the Goodgers may have a stronger set of Wide Receivers this season than last -- even with the departure of the outstanding Braylon Edwards. Steve Breaston and Dorian Bryant are two of the most exciting young players in the league and they could easily be first and second in fantasy points among receivers in the upcoming season. In fact, that is their goal for the upcoming season.
The rest of the league is bound to be gunning for them and they can expect to play against a fired up team week in, week out. "For them [Golden Goblins, Fighting Farmers and Spitfires] whenever they play the Goodgers it is like the Blue Ox Bowl. If they can beat us, they know they've beaten the best," Stanton told this reporter. "But we've still got the Ox and we want it to stay that way."
Notes from Camp:
As usual, the Goodgers will likely have to wait until others have started to rebuild their team to stock thier bench but as in the past, the organization has always risen to the occasion. Expect the departure of previously highly regarded prospects Austin Scott and EB Halsey. Both players have shown flashes of the performance expected when the arived in Buckyland two years ago, but neither has been able to produce at a high enough level to stick around this season.
