PS
Well I am returning to the dart board this week after taking an unexpected week off. Before I forget here are some tidbits:
1 England and Sweden have both qualified for next summer's world cup- good news!- I have high hopes for England with Rooney, Owen, Beckham, Campbell, and Lampard all elite international players . I just hope they can avoid Brazil and Germany's group. The host team always does well in the world cup and I expect Germany to be tough especially with Kahn in the net. It should be fun to watch.
2 The Goodger deserves a lot of credit for drafting Bret B this year. I thought he was crazy to select him over Cupito- ha ha! The Bazanez Robinson picks are nothing short of brilliant- well done!
3 After watching Iowa State play outside on a brisk but beautiful fall day last week I could not help but return to my memories of watching the gophs play outside at memorial stadium and how the smells and sounds of that stadium linger with me to this day. Football should be played outdoors and this experience makes me yearn for that outdoor stadium.
4 The goblins and Farmers are pleased to announce the introduction of a traveling trophy between the two schools. The as yet unnamed and unpurchased trophy is going to be a scarecrow. We feel this is a perfect symbol for schools with the names farmers and goblins. It is sure to be a prized and respected trophy in the long history of rivalry trophies. In addition, the Goblins are close to revealing the precious "family flag" trophy. The family crest has been located and as soon as it can be put on to the appropriate flag the Goblins (now assured of winning it this year) we display it for the league to see. Finally, the goblins have an idea for their series with the goodgers but further talks are necessary before that idea can be implemented.
5 I firmly believe that if Va. Tech was in the big ten they would suffer at least two conferences losses- they are good but overrated.
6 Upon hearing criticism from fans about the inactivity of the goblins before the trade deadline, coach C explained his inaction this way: the spits wanted too much for maroney. We could not afford to give up Smith or sutton and giving away picks might jeopardize our future competitiveness. Our organization has done a good job finding hidden talent in the draft (we just are not smart enough to keep them- see Manningham) and losing a draft choice might compromise our ability to make a run next year and add to the young talent already on our roster. However, if I had known that Maroney would be virtually cut in a rapid and secret deal then I might have offered Simmons, Love and Ellerson along with a throw away draft pick initially to get Maroney but I thought that would be insulting, apparently I was wrong.
Now to this week's picks- I think I can get the house back.
Nebraska
It's nice to say these are two terrible teams. I think Neb at home is the difference
Clemson
I am not certain about this one but if Clemson is going to have a decent season then this is a game they must win
Cinny
this is not an endorsement of Cinny just an indictment of the orange. I am sure cinny would win if it were in cinny but I cannot bring myself to pick a pathetic syracuse team.
T Tech
Baylor is improved but they will not stop tech's O. This is also my lock of the week- something outside the big ten finally.
Mizzu
I love they beat Neb and now they will follow it up with a narrow win over the basketball school
BYU
everyone knows that red neck college head coaches just don't have the brains that head coaches of mormon colleges do.
FSU
I do not think FSU is very good but at home against a mediocore Maryland team I think they will pull it out
A@M
As much as I want to pick ISU, I just think their O is poor and their D is not consistent. On the road this is a much worse team.
USC
IS there even a question?
Georgia
Fl sucks and Georgia is an overrated team because they play in the SEC. The Dawgs will slip past the gators in another ugly SEC game.
Oregon State
I am waiting for Arizona to break through and win one of these games but I might have to face the fact that they are still a year away from any significant improvement.
Fresno
At hawaii scares me and I think both these teams are down compared to their recent past put I have seen less life out of the rainbows than the bulldogs.
MSU
I could get burned here picking a bad team to win on the road but kentucky lost to Indiana! Plus this is MSU's best chance for a win they should be motivated...maybe
TENN
They should have beaten the tide and they will bitch SC this week to make up for it.
Big Ten
Penn State 41
Purdue 17
This is the bet your mortgage game. These teams have changed positions in the conf. Let the beat down begin.
Michigan State 45
Indiana 20
MSU is falling apart and it's hard to explain. I think they get it together this week and look good doing it. MSU is weak against the pass and Ind should move the ball but they will never stop the MSU O.
Wisconsin 49
Illinois 21
This is the bet your car and first born game. The mercy rule should kick in at halftime. Ill will score meaningless td's late and wisc will struggle to hold the score below 50
Michigan 34
Northwestern 30
I know, NW looks great and Mich has Henne. But I doubt NW's D can handle Michigan's O front and Mich will not gimmick you like MSU. This means Mich will score. The question is can Mich stop NW O. I think if they can pressure BAZ-turn woodley loose- then we might see the old Baz. I think this is the type of game michigan loves- they are not the favorite and they can prove they are still mean michigan. In the end it will be close but I think Mich will find an unlikely hero this week.
Ohio State 27
Minnesota 17
For some reason this score has been in my head for two weeks. This is a poor match-up for MN. A running Q and a real D. I think OSU will dominate the first half and then Tressel will go into a shell in the 2nd to protect the lead on the road. Maroney will have a sub-par game and while I see MN stopping OSU from time to time they will also give up big plays and make none of their own. Maybe the funny running scheme of MN will give OSU some trouble but even if it does they will adjust better than most other teams. They will fill the gaps and cut off our angle blocking. I think it will be a long day. I'd look to Wheelwright as I think OSU is weakest on the corners.
Good luck all
