Who's the Best Big Ten QB? (and I don't mean for fantasy value)

Here's an interesting question. If you were starting a Big Ten team, NOT a fantasy team, but an actual coach of an actual team...and you could have 1 of the current Big Ten starting QB's as your starting QB, who would you choose and why?

This should be interesting....I'd take Cuptio.

Seriously, I'll give you my pick after someone else gets the discussion going.

Well to start off --

The ones that are right out: Brasic, Cupito, Henne, Kirsch, Stocco.

You’re having a nice season but sorry: Powers

That leaves: Basanez, Robinson, Smith, Stanton, Tate.

i would agree with that...in fact, I even went to the trouble of ranking them.(i know, its shocking that I would rank something) This ranking is for the QB that i would want on my team, not best fantasy QB, or best NFL prospect or anything like that. Just the QB that I would want the Gophers to have lets say.

11)Tim Brasic
10)Brandon Kirsch
9)John Stocco
8)Bryan Cupito
7)Chad Henne
6)Drew Tate (I see Tate and Powers as being about the same, although Powers is having a great year running the spread and Tate is struggling at Iowa. That's why I have Powers higher)
5)Blake Powers
This is where it gets tough for me...
4)Drew Stanton
3)Brett Basanez
These are my definate top 2...mainly because I love the running QB and what they can do for your offense.
2)Michael Robinson
1)Troy Smith

Well this is how I'd rank the top 5:

5 -- Basanez. He's having a great season but to me, he runs the spread offense really well. He doesn't have a strong arm, he's not particularly fast. His skills work really well in the offense he runs. You can't build a team around him.

4 -- Smith. He's still too inacurate a passer. He is a dynamic runner but still not a complete QB. Might be great in another 2 years.

3 -- Drew Tate. He's a very complete player.

2 -- Michael Robinson. He has developed into a true mobile QB that can kill the opposition with both his passing and rushing.

1 -- Drew Stanton. Best QB in the Big Ten. Strongest arm, good legs. He's on a team that has a bunch of basketball players players at WR and he's still great.

My top 5.

5) Troy Smith- I'm in love w/ his athletic ability, but his decision making and passing game are average, and at times horrible. I think in a year or two he'll be the Big Ten's bet though.

4) Mike Robinson- See Troy Smith. Problem w/ Robinson is that I believe he's maxed out his ability at QB and he's still not very good. He's a great leader and has sweet feet though.

3) Drew Tate- I'll admit I've hardly seem him play this year, so this is mostly on last season. Nice athlete that knows how to lead his team down the field. He takes what the D gives him and doesn't try to force too many passes ala Cupito or Henne.

2) Drew Staton- Uncanny ability for a white guy. He's be my #1, but I think he lets losses and unproductive starts get to his head.

1) While far less impressive as an athlete or physical speciman, Brent Basanez is a gamer. He's my clear choice for #1 based on his leadership and ability to pull the big one out of his hat when the games on the line.
